Canyon Lake Gorge

In 2002, the upper part of the Guadalupe River watershed experienced 35 inches of rainfall in one week.  The spillway at Canyon Lake Dam worked as planned, saving the dam, but the result was a gorge eroded by the water coming over the spillway.  The guided tour of the gorge is highly recommended to learn about the geological history exposed by this event.

Turns out the talented potter who made this mug lives just a few houses down from us in Wimberley.  I took this photo on top of our mailbox at sunset.  A piece of Texas limestone was propped in the background and the moon is seen above.
